Outage Due to Failed Regulator

Approximately 1,900 locations in Pontotoc County were without power from approximately 6:30 PM to 8 PM Sunday evening. The outage was due to a failed voltage regulator inside the cooperative’s Ahloso substation.

PEC Crew Assists in Ice Storm Recovery

Ada, Okla., — Monday morning, a five-man crew from Ada-based People’s Electric Cooperative (PEC) left for Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) located in Hooker, Oklahoma. The PEC crew, composed of Brad Butler, Wes Wainscott, Rusty Stuart, Aaron Brown, and Ryan Stoup, will assist in the restoration efforts following Ice Storm Jupiter’s crippling devastation in the northwest portion of our state. PEC’s VP of Corporate Communications and Community Relations Jennifer Boeck reported that approximately 6,200 member-consumers in Tri-County’s service area were still without power as of Monday morning.

You Otter Give Blood

To keep the blood supply strong through the July 4th weekend, Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is urging PEC members and Ada area residents to make donation a priority.  The 7th Annual All-American Blood Drive of Ada, sponsored by PEC, the Chickasaw Nation, and Mercy Hospital will occur at 1710 North Broadway - Agri Plex Convention Center, Thursday, July 7, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Two tickets to an Oklahoma City Dodgers baseball game will be awarded to each person who donates a pint of blood.

PEC Board of Trustees Selects Kevin Wood as New CEO

Wood, who currently serves as PEC’s Senior Vice-President of Corporate Services, will succeed Randy Ethridge who has served in the role since 1985.

National Email Scam Hitting Inboxes

ADA, OK – Recently there has been an increase in the number of scam/phishing attempts targeting customers of all types of utilities across the nation.  Most of these emails are addressed generically to “Energy Customer” or reference an “Energy bill.”  The email prompts the user to “click here,” which redirects to a site designed to capture personal and financial information. Members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to PEC immediately.

Christian and Traylor Named PEC Employees of the Year

ADA, OK — Each year People’s Electric Cooperative (PEC) full-time employees are asked to cast ballots for two fellow employees who consistently demonstrate excellence in his or her position and are most deserving of Employee of the Year recognition.  The identities of the honorees are kept secret until they are revealed at the annual Employee Awards Presentation. The 2012 Employees of the Year are Debbie Christian in PEC’s Administrative Services Division and Heath Traylor from the Operations Division.

PEC Receives National Community Service Award

San Diego, CA, 11-12-2012— PEC received the 2012 Community Excellence award at the 2012 Rural Smart Grid Summit (RSGS) for selfless contributions and continued work within its community.

The award was voted on by the Smart Grid Summit advisory board made up of utility executives, industry analyst, senior executives from technology companies and association representatives. One hundred and twenty electric cooperatives had the opportunity to nominate themselves for the Community Excellence Award which went to the REC that demonstrated selfless and extraordinary contributions to the community.

PEC Echoes Attorney General’s Scam Warning

ADA, OK – People’s Electric Cooperative spokesperson Monica Neal repeated the warning that Attorney General Scott Pruitt issued last Thursday for Oklahoma consumers who use Green Dot cards.

“Just this week, one of our own electric consumers reported having been unknowingly hit by this scam in May,” Neal said. “We want our members to be aware of this scam.Although this was the first report from a PEC electric consumer, we know at least three consumers of East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative in Okmulgee have been contacted with this scam. Consumers in other states also are reporting contact.”
