National Email Scam Hitting Inboxes

Date: February 19, 2014
Topics: Press Releases

ADA, OK – Recently there has been an increase in the number of scam/phishing attempts targeting customers of all types of utilities across the nation. Most of these emails are addressed generically to “Energy Customer” or reference an “Energy bill.” The email prompts the user to “click here,” which redirects to a site designed to capture personal and financial information.

If you receive any such email that seems suspicious, we encourage you to contact PEC via email, SmartHub, or phone. And, as always, never provide personal or financial information to a source you don’t trust.

PEC is a rural electric distribution cooperative providing electrical service to approximately 15,000 members in 11 south central Oklahoma counties and distributes electricity 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to over 21,000 locations.
